Starting Pitchers Boston: Joe Dobson St. Louis: Fred Sanford Boosted by a double from Stan Spence, the Red Sox led 3-0 after the First Inning. Boston led 5-0 before the Browns got on the board in the Fifth Inning thanks to back-to-back triples by Sam Dente and Bob Dillinger. The Red Sox answered in the Sixth Inning from a booming 3-run home run off the bat of Vern Stephens. Boston added three runs in the Eighth Inning and two runs in the Ninth Inning to bury the Browns 13-2. Each Red Sox batter had at least two hits on the day except for starting pitcher Dobson who managed only one hit. Boston banged out 20 hits total for the game. Starting Pitchers Boston: Mel Parnell St. Louis: Cliff Fannin Browns third baseman Bob Dillinger led off the game with a single then scored on triple by Jerry Priddy. Priddy scored on long fly ball to left field off the bat of Whitey Platt. Dillinger and Priddy teamed up again in the Third Inning when Dillinger again singled and Priddy whacked a 2-out home run into the stands to stretch the Browns lead to 4-0. St. Louis starting pitcher Cliff Fannin had a rough Fifth Inning when he gave up three straight walks then a single to Stan Spence to surrender three runs and let the Red Sox back in the game at 4-3. Fannin helped himself in the St. Louis half of the Fifth Inning when he singled and scored on an Al Barilla double to push the Browns lead to 5-3. Fannin hushed the Red Sox bats the rest of the game while the Browns bats had their way with Boston relievers to deliver a win to St. Louis, 10-3. Season Records Boston: 1-1 St. Louis: 1-1 |
