The Dodgers had all the power and all the timely hitting. Pedro Guerrero belted a 3-run homerun in the Third Inning to put Los Angeles ahead for good. The Cardinals' hitting was not good at all in this game, or in the previous game. In two games versus the Dodgers, the #1-2-3 hitters were a combined 1 for 22 with one Walk, one HBP and five Strikeouts.

Starting Pitchers
St. Louis: Dave LaPoint Los Angeles: Fernando Valenzuela St. Louis Herr 1-4 2 Strikeouts McGee 1-4 2 Strikeouts Porter 0-2 2 Strikeouts 2 Walks Run Landrum 0-1 RBI Pinch-hit for LaPoint in the 8th Inning and flied out deep to left field to drive in Porter. LaPoint 7.0 IP 4 Hits 3 Runs 2 Earned Runs 3 Walks 4 Strikeouts Los Angeles Russell 0-3 Walk Reached on an error Run Marshall 2-4 HR 2 Runs RBI Maldonado 1-4 2 RBI Valenzuela 9.0 IP 3 Hits 3 Walks Hit Batter 1 Run 9 Strikeouts St. Louis 1 (0-0-1) Los Angeles 3 (1-0-1) Herr struck out twice and committed and error that led to a St.Louis unearned run, but he led off the 9th Inning with a single that sparked a rally. McGee also struck out twice on the day but with two outs in the 9th Inning, he singled then stole second base to put runners on 2nd and 3rd base with Cardinals down 3-1. Pat Zachary relieved Valenzuela with those runners in scoring position - and two outs and proceeded to strike out Daryl Porter to end the game. Another great game of APBA baseball. LaPoint and Valenzuela both pitched well and it seemed like the Dodgers would win easily especially after Mike Marshall’s solo shot in the 7th Inning but the Cardinals kept fighting and kept the game in doubt until the end. |
