Game 6 Chicago Starter: Sutcliffe Los Angeles Starter Hershieser The Cubs visited the Dodgers on their West Coast trip to start the season. Rick Sutcliffe got his second start of the year. He would go up against Orel Hersheiser (unstead of Jerry Reuss as was the case because I didn't have a card for him and Orel won a dice roll over Burt Hooton to get the start). In the First Inning, Ken Landreaux and Pedro Gurrero nailed back-to-back home runs and the Los Angeles is up 2-0 just like on Sutcliffe. The Cubs answered back in the bottom of the Second Inning when Leon Durham led off with a walk and came home on a Jody Davis double. Davis was then thrown out a home when Larry Bowa singled to center. At the end of two innings the score was Dodgers 2 Cubs 1. Sutcliffe proceeded to strikeout 7 of the next 12 batters he faces. Hersheiser kept the Cubs shut down. Guerrero blasted a solo home run in the Sixth Inning to put the Dodgers up, 3-1. The Cubs failed to threaten and in the Eighth Inning Guerrero belted another home run into the outfield seats to give Los Angeles a 4-1 lead. The the Cubs pinch-hit for Sutcliffe in the Ninth Inning. Henry Cotto singled and reached second base on an error by left fielder, Mike Marshall. Bob Dernier flied out directly to Marshall (Dernier's bat is really cooling off) and Hersheiser whiffed Gary Matthews for strikeout number 9. Ryne Sandberg reached on a throwing error by second baseman Steve Sax and the Cubs were in business with runners on first and second with 2 outs. Third baseman Ron Cey stepped into the box and is no match for Hersheiser who set him down swinging in front of a standing Chavez Ravine crowd for the win. Final: Dodgers 4 Cubs 1 Wins: 3 Ties: 1 Losses: 2 Game 7
Chicago Starter: Trout Los Angeles Starter: Honeycutt Steve Trout goes 8 innings, allows 3 hits, 2 walks and strikes out 2. Rick Honeycutt goes 7 innings allows 4 hits, 3 walks and strikes out 3. Chicago held a 1-0 heading into the bottom of the Ninth Inning. Ken Landreaux led off the Dodger Ninth Inning with a single off of Trout. The Cubs brought in reliever Lee Smith. Smith fanned Pedro Guerrero. Mike Marshall then deposited a Smith fastball into the bleachers to give the Dodgers a 2-1 win. Final: Dodgers 2 Cubs 1 Wins: 3 Ties: 1 Losses: 3
