On Sunday August 28, 2011, Minnesota congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, who is currently seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2012, was in Sarasota Florida when, according to the St. Petersburg Times, she said this:

"I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending.

You can see and hear Mrs. Bachmann say it all for yourself, right here on the ABC News web site.

I am at a loss for words as to how ridiculous, completely insensitive and totally ignorant Mrs. Bachmann's statement was.

If anyone who has been directly effected by Hurricane Irene or has followed the storm and the path of death and destruction left in its path, knows exactly how downright and outright egregious Ms. Bachmann's statement was.

The result of Hurricane Irene that Mrs. Bachmann said was "sent by God to get the attention of politicians" has been as follows:

As of today, Sunday September 4, 2011, forty-six people have died as a result of Hurricane Irene. To say it again plainly, 46 people have since died from Hurricane Irene since the storm approached the United States coast and made landfall last Saturday, August 27th.

This article from The Republic (Columbus, IN) reports on the death is Virginia.
This article from the Salt Lake Tribune reports a few from Virginia and other states.
This article from The Wall Street Journal reports a few more in even more states.

This should be enough to sadden the hearts of everyone, anywhere in the world.

According to Mrs. Bachmann, God sent Hurricane Irene to say this:
'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending.

I have nothing more to say.
Mrs. Bachmann has already said too much.
