Sam Vico drove in two runs for the Tigers. April 24 Cleveland Indians 1 Gene Bearden Boudreau 1-4 RBI Detroit Tigers 2 Hal Newhouser Wertz 0-2 Run Bearden 7.0 IP 1 Hit 5 Walks 2 Strikeouts 2 Runs Newhouser 9.0 IP 4 Hits 3 Walks 1 Strikeout 1 Run The Indians were ahead 1-0 heading into the Tigers’ bottom of the Seventh Inning. Vic Wertz and Hoot Evers drew back-to-back Walks. Dick Wakefield then flew out deep enough to left field to allow Wertz and Evers to move up to second base and third base. Sam Vico plunked the Tigers lone hit - a single - to drive in Wertz and tie the game. Evers was held at third base. Joe Ginsberg then skied one deep to right field that allowed Evers to tag up and score what would end up as the winning run. April 25 Cleveland Indians 2 Sam Zoldak Bourdreau 0-3 Walk Reached on an Error Detroit Tigers 2 Fred Hutchinson Wertz 0-3 Walk Run Behind 2-1 in the Seventh Inning, Jim Hegan led off with a double. Zoldak then lined to Hutchinson who whipped a throw to second base to double up Hegan. Thurman Tucker then coaxed a walk and Larry Doby smashed a Triple into left field to tie the game.
