The Norfolk Cricketers have come out of their hibernation caves and taken the Oval again.
They will warm up with a friendly Test Series of five matches against the 2000 India squad. Test #1 Weather: Good Pitch: Good (Since this is the first cricket match I have played in a while, I have decided to not use the Weather or Pitch Rules for this first Test Match.) India won the Toss and elected to bat first. Day One ended with India at 258 runs and 3 Wickets (258/3). Day Two began with India still batting. They batted until the first session ended for Tea and then Declared. India ended their First Innings with a run total of 334 and 3 lost Wickets (334/3). India batted for 124 Overs in their First Innings (which is one full day and one-third of another). Their Run Rate is 2.69. Kartik led the way for India with 127 Not Out. Norfolk will now bat in their First Innings. Norfolk batted through the rest of the Day Two and into Day Three before they Declared. Norfolk batted for a total of 112 Overs in their First Innings. Norfolk scored 316 runs and lost 7 wickets (316/7). Their Run Rate is 2.82. Sawyer led Norfolk with 113 runs. (Note: At this point in the Test, I realized I had done some thing wrong. I had India Declare (stop their batting Innings) too early. I did some research and found I should have had them bat through Day Two and amass as many runs as they could until then - if they didn't lose all ten of their Wickets first. I also should have let Norfolk bat more in their First Innings for the same reasons - but at least I made the same mistake for both squads. Probably, after my research, India would have reached 500 runs or near in their First Innings near the end of Day Two, putting real pressure on Norfolk to respond and respond quickly.) India will now bat in their Second Innings. India batted through the remainder of Day Three and into Day Four before they Declared. India batted for a total of 55 Overs in their Second Innings. India scored 229 runs and lost 2 Wickets (229/2). Their Run Rate for their Second Innings is 4.16. Their Total batted Overs is 179 with their Total Runs at 563 for a combined Run Rate of 3.15. India has set the Target at 537 runs to win the match. Norfolk needs 247 runs to tie and 248 runs to win. Norfolk has (about) 69 Overs in Day Four and (about) 90 Overs in Day Five to bat with 10 Wickets to lose. Norfolk will now bat in their Second Innings. Norfolk openers Sawyer and C.Hathaway carried the squad in the First Innings - but were both taken down for Ducks (0 runs) in the Second Innings. Third batsman Heintz fared better but was Caught Out for 19 runs. Fourth batsman Riley and fifth batsman Scherrer then wailed on India's bowlers. Riley gathered 122 runs and Scherrer added and even 100. The flustered India bowlers surrendered 8 Extras in the Innings. All told, Norfolk batted for 93 Overs (into Day Five) and scored 249 runs while losing 3 Wickets (249/3). Their Run Rate was 2.68. Norfolk wins Test #1. India: 334/3d. 229/2d. 563 Norfolk: 316/7d. 249/3 565 (Note: I should have let India bat longer in their Second Innings. They needed to build a higher run total and Target score. I did not think Norfolk's bats would do what they did nor did I think they would only lose 3 Wickets - and certainly not after they were at 19/3 early on in the Innings. There were about 70 Overs left in Day Five (when the Match would have ended) so I had more time for India to bat and for them to try and then bowl out Norfolk. I have learned a lot in this first match, for sure). Test #2 will include Pitch Rules.
