Brad Stevens and Dwight Howard

Brad Stevens is making Dwight Howard look very silly.

Stevens was just hired as head coach for the Boston Celtics. Stevens was previously the head basketball coach for Butler University. Right - Butler University. No one knew there was even a Butler University until Stevens put the school on the map with the success of the basketball team that began when he took over six years ago (when Stevens was 29 years old).

Stevens led the Bulldogs to a 166-49 (.772 winning percentage) record over those six years. The team never failed to win at least 22 games each season. The team went to back-to-back national championship final games in 2010 and 2011.

Stevens was heavily courted this off season by many universities. Stevens turned them all down. He even turned away UCLA. His plans were to stay with Butler and keep building the outstanding program he had already laid the foundation and more for.

Enter Dwight Howard.
Howard seemed to force his head coach out of Orlando when he was with the Magic. Howard was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and signed to a one year contract. This season with the Lakers, the team fired its initial head coach after a rocky start and hired another coach, Mike D’antoni. The Lakers fought to make the playoffs and then were bounced in the first round with an injured Kobe Bryant on the bench (Howard rather blatantly seemed to foul himself out of the final playoff game when his team needed him most - and they were behind by a good bit of points).

Howard is now pursuing free agency. The Lakers would like Howard to stay. Howard is not certain he wants to remain in Los Angeles.

Back to Stevens, again.
The other day, the Boston Celtics hired Stevens as their head coach - we covered that, right?
Brad Stevens took the job as head coach of the Boston Celtics.
Bob Cousy, K.C. Jones, Bill Russell, Red Auerbach, John Havlicek, Rober Parrish, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, Sam Jones, Tom Heinsohn, Dave Cowens, etc. Seventeen (17) NBA championships.

Stevens took the Celtics job when they called him. The Boston Celtics.

Back to Dwight Howard.
Howard has to think about staying with the Lakers or not. The Los Angeles Lakers.
Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, George Mikan, Elgin Baylor, Vern Mikkelsen, Gail Goodrich, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jamaal Wilkes, Bob McAdoo, James Worthy, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant. Sixteen (16) NBA Championships.

Howard has to think about it. He has to think about staying with the Lakers.

Stevens is smart - wise. The Celtics call, you go. They’re the Celtics.
Howard is….Howard. He’s not sure he wants to be a Laker. He has to think about it and consider his options.

Dwight Howard is just silly.
