WORDS.
We all had days when were in school that we forgot to do our homework, or just didn’t even attempt it, and we had to come up with some excuse that would hopefully buy us some time so maybe we could actually do our homework and turn it in to Mr. or Mrs. McGillicutty the next day.
“My dog ate my homework,” was a good one to use and the default stand-by - unless your family didn’t have a dog. A popular excuse later on would become, “My printer broke” which could be more truthful in the days of dot-matrix units and tractor-fed paper reams. These days maybe the excuse has become, “My internet was down last night” which would be doubly bad because it would knock students off of social media for twelve hours. The Internal Revenue Service has resurrected an excuse that I’m sure a good number of us have used in the past and may have even used recently: “My hard drive crashed” and they even tagged on the caveat, “My hard drive has been recycled”. I think we can all believe that excuse as much as Mr. or Mrs. McGillicutty believed ours. All we are left with from the IRS is what happens when the dog does eat our homework and then sets about recycling it.
